Chop. Dice. Pare. Slice. Eleanor Prim’s apple wedges and celery sticks were uniform in every possible way. Errant pieces were discarded, and, with practiced, patient skill, Miss Prim turned her attention to the block of cheese. After focused concentration, she produced dozens of precise cubes suitable to be methodically arranged on the silver tray. As Miss Prim carefully positioned all the assorted morsels in a symmetrical pattern, taking into consideration color and size, she glanced at the clock. Her ornate, handmade invitations had specified 7:00 p.m. sharp. Perhaps, one day, Miss Prim would find the courage to mail the invitations.
